Interpreter Trainers’ Workshop
5th ASLIA National Interpreter
Trainers’ Workshop, Wed 19 & Thu 20 August 2009, Melbourne,
Victoria.
In the modern context of interpreter education and training,
the opportunity for interpreter educators to come together and
share resources, teaching and learning initiatives, research,
and to network with one another, is indeed rare. Despite the
Australian Qualifications Framework uniformity of award and
the availability of a national TAFE curriculum for teaching
interpreters, the reality is that TAFE colleges and universities
have become increasingly devolved and independent entities across
the country. Interpreter education programs in each state operate
autonomously, and cross-institutional collaboration and discussion
tends to occur on an informal and impromptu basis, if at all.
The ASLIA National Interpreter Trainers’ Workshop (ITW) was
established to encourage more formal exchange of information
and knowledge by interpreter educators in a recognized forum,
and to create networking opportunities for trainers. It is our
great pleasure to host ITW 2009 in Melbourne, Victoria for the
first time in the history of the event, and if you are involved
in interpreter education and training, we hope that you will
grasp this exciting opportunity to collaborate and converse
with national and international colleagues in the field.
